July 14/23 18:22 pm - Ney Remains in the Lead After Stage 5 at Abitibi

Team Canada's Matthew Ney remains in the Brown Jersey of race leader at the Tour de l'Abitibi after Stage 5 on Friday. The stage win went to Team USA's Caden Budd. Jonathan Hinse of Team Canada came second, and the third rider to get to the finish line was Satoaki Nagashima of Team Japan.

Stage 5, sponsored by the CMAC-Thyssen Mining Group, was modified this year due to wildfires. It was decided to replace Stage 5 at Senneterre by a stage closer to the host city of Amos.

The stage was marked by a breakaway that reached a maximum of 1:55 between the leading riders and the rest of the peloton. Several riders tried to escape later, but only Budd managed to stay away and win by four seconds.

There is no change to the top-3 on GC, with Ney leading team mates Ethan Powell and Hinse by three seconds and 28 seconds, respectively. Budd moves up to fourth overall, 46 seconds back. The jerseys are unchanged also, with Hinse in Best Young Rider (Blue) and Points (Orange), and Alexis Bouchard (Team Canada) in the Polka Dot (Climber). Team Canada continues to lead the Team GC.
